Misinformation on the Wikipedia
Allowing anyone to edit the Wikipedia makes it easy for erroneous information to make its way onto the online encyclopedia or for parties to edit Wikipedia entries in order to manipulate public information towards their own ends. In 2005, an inaccurate entry in the Wikipedia, wrongly linked journalist and former Robert Kennedy staff member, John Seigenthaler Sr. to the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and John F. Kennedy1. In January 2006, the Lowell Sun, a daily newspaper serving Lowell, Massachusetts, reported that more than 1000 Wikipedia entries have been altered by U.S. congressional staffers2. Negative comments about Massachusetts congressman Marty Meehan were removed.
